Archive Update
I’ve decided to start fresh with the current archive, but for those of you who were asking for the old stuff, here it is. This is anything I’ve ever drawn and released under the Bananatron IP over the months it’s been around. It’s interesting to see how it’s changed.
Enjoy.
Google, Seth McFarlane and Content Creation
“A new project, “Seth MacFarlane’s Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy,” will debut in September — in your web browser” - New York Times via Venture Beat
For those who haven’t heard, Google has signed Seth McFarlane to produce short form cartoons for Google Adsense ads.
What does this mean for content creators?
This could mean big money for web content creators. This concept is not a new one, but the fact that the largest advertising distributor on the internet jumped on board, means there will definately be some interest.
What does this mean for web comics?
If such a trend emerges, this could bring huge money into the webcomic industry. When it comes to short form humor, in convinient bite size peices, nobody does it better than web comics.
Wouldn’t that be selling out?
Short answer: Yes and no. Content providers that have accumulated a brand and/or audience will have the choice to select exactly what and who they produce content for. This trend is leaning towards choosing content producers that already have attained an audience, and as a result, bring attention to advertisers. The choice to ‘sell out’ lies completely in the content producer’s hands.
In short, this practice has been going on for quite a while, (in webcomics and elsewhere) but now that Google is (potentially) making it a mainstay, it could bring a whole new form of income to a lot more content creators on the web.
Interesting to say the least..
RSS Update
For those who were experiencing hickups in the RSS recently, that should all be fixed now. You now get the full comic images and all the news items in one convinient feed. If you don’t want news feel free to hack up the php on the front page and make your own.
In addition, I’m calling the Bananatron army to the front lines in the war against Mike Phillips from Apathetic Rant! The charges are as follows: domain thieving, producing slanderous ads, and just being an all around jerk.
FOR THE GREATER GOOD!

New Faces
The new face of bananatron has officially taken form. I’ve been trying to decide exactly what form of media would be most effective for telling the story.
